FCC rejects experimentation petition
The ARRL reports the US regulator the FCC has turned away a Petition to
permit very low power Experimental Operation on amateur radio bands
*James Edwin Whedbee N0ECN* sought to amend FCC Part 97 Amateur Service
rules to let radio amateurs conduct experiments on all amateur radio bands,
subject to certain limits on duration, power, and bandwidth.
N0ECN has submitted a number of petitions to the FCC seeking to change
aspects of the FCC Part 97 regulations. From this side of the Atlantic it
might appear that rather than tinkering with Part 97 what is needed is a
complete rewrite. The FCC did attempt a major modernization of the Part 97
regs 40 years ago in 1976 with Docket 20777 but this was defeated by the
amateur community.
