International Space Station to be deorbited  after 2020

The Russian Novosti news agency reports that, according to deputy chief of the Russian Federal Space Agency, Vitalius Davydov, the International Space Station is to be de-orbited in 10 years, after 2020, and crashed into the Pacific.

The ISS will therefore follow Mir into a fiery deorbit and a watery grave.

Citing "several possibilities" for the future, Davydov said that he expected to see a new station linked more closely with voyages to the moon and Mars.

International space agencies have been meeting to discuss the achievements and future opportunties for the ISS.
