Digital ATV in the UK

Radio Amateurs in the UK are increasingly experimenting with Digital Amateur Television (DATV), Charles G4GUO is one of those.

Charles Brain G4GUO is well-known for his development of Amateur HF Digital Voice in the late 1990's and the PC-ALE software. He is now working on Digital ATV equipment for the Amateur 24cm and 70cm bands.

His 24cm transmitter comprises a Core 2 Quad 2.8 GHz Linux box running the Fedora 12 O/S, a Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP2) card developed by Matt Ettus N2MJI and a Hauppauge PVR500 MPEGII encoder card.

The transmit rate is 2 Msps (Mega-Samples Per Second).

On receive he uses a standard Fortec Star DVB-S set top box.
