Amateur Radio emergency communications

The RSGB has scored media coverage about the emergency communications role of Amateur Radio with a lengthy segment on the BBC World Service's 'News Hour' program.

In a media release the RSGB General Manager Peter Kirby G0TWW said, "When disasters occur in regions where the communications infrastructure has been destroyed, Amateur Radio comes to the rescue."

Bouncing off that statement, the BBC obtained interviews with the ARRL Media & Public Relations Manager Allen Pitts W1AGP and Alberto Barbera IK1YLO, the IARU National Emergency Communications Coordinator for Italy.

Allen W1AGP explained the nature of Amateur Radio and how it can provide emergency communications.
While Alberto IK1YLO discussed the role of Amateur Radio immediately after the L'Aquila earthquake and how it is still continues.
