<H1>Amateur Radio emergency communications</H1>
<P><FONT face=Verdana>The <STRONG>RSGB</STRONG> has scored media coverage about
the emergency communications role of Amateur Radio with a lengthy segment on the
BBC World Service’s ‘News Hour’ program.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana>In a media release the RSGB General Manager <STRONG>Peter
Kirby G0TWW</STRONG> said, “When disasters occur in regions where the
communications infrastructure has been destroyed, Amateur Radio comes to the
rescue.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana>Bouncing off that statement, the BBC obtained interviews
with the ARRL Media & Public Relations Manager <STRONG>Allen Pitts
W1AGP</STRONG> and <STRONG>Alberto Barbera IK1YLO</STRONG>, the IARU National
Emergency Communications Coordinator for Italy.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana>Allen W1AGP explained the nature of Amateur Radio and how
it can provide emergency communications. <BR>While Alberto IK1YLO discussed the
role of Amateur Radio immediately after the L'Aquila earthquake and how it is
still continues.</FONT></P>
