Sweden: 60m band now available
The Swedish amateur radio society, SSA, reports radio amateurs gained
access to the new WRC-15 60m (5 MHz) band on November 1
A Google translation says:
Some may have missed a new regular amateur band of 5 MHz on November
1, when the new regulation came into force. Previously, different
variants of temporary permissions have been sought, but now the band
is free to use all Swedish radio amateurs to use without a special
permission.
Band limits are 5351.5 and 5366.5 kHz respectively and the maximum
allowable power is limited to 15 watts EIRP. This means that
consideration must be given to the possible direction of the antenna.
A typical semiconductor dipole has an antenna gain of just over 2 dB
relative to a theoretically perfect round-beam antenna, and the
transmitter output power must therefore be reduced accordingly if
using a semiconductor dipole. On the other hand, a sufficiently poor
power supply between transmitter and antenna may have a loss that
outweighs the antenna gain.
According to the IARU Region 1 band plan , it is recommended that
ring-QSO and long-talkers hold 80 and 40-meter bands, as the new band
is only 15 kHz wide. The Swedish version of the band schedule is
updated with this new 60-meter band. You can find it here:

In the morning of November 1, many well-known Swedish amateurs could
be heard on the band. The 5 MHz wavelength seems suitable for contacts
in our remote country, stations ranging from 90 to 900 km were heard
with good signal strengths at the signature.
At some earlier stage, non-amateurs could also be granted 5 MHz
experimental states. Probably this is no longer the case, but the SSA
awaits clarification by PTS there.
