Passion of amateur radio
Radio Cadena Agramonte interviews one of the new generation of radio
amateurs in Cuba
"What started by excitement ended up being an important work", confirms *Roger
Ramirez Rivero*, a young man of 24 years of age, a bachelor's degree in
Computer Science from the University of Camagüey, Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz,
and today an active member of the federation of radio amateurs of Cuba in
this city of the eastern central region of the country.
On his beginnings in this activity he recalls: "My father was a radio ham
of first category, hence my interest in the world of the spread of
communications by means of radio waves. Pass an academy and got my
certificate of capacity and so I became amateur radio third category, which
is why you start", says Roger on the inspiration that motivated him to get
into that world.
But what is most interesting is the value that is in the Camagüey concedes
to the fact that the majority of the members of that movement throughout
the country, they are young.
"Our work is vital to the sustainability of communications during the
passage of hurricanes, or at special events where direct communication is
needed, as is the case of the general elections. In addition, we
participate in the census of population that led a quality assurance in
villages far from the city that did not have enough communication to
transmit the data in real time."
