New IARU Region 2 Band Planning Committee

*IARU Region 2* has formed a Band Planning Committee in order to coordinate
all aspects of band planning and spectrum usage in the Americas

At the recent meeting of the International Amateur Radio Union Region 2
Executive Committee, it was decided to create a Region 2 Band Planning
Committee in order to coordinate all aspects of band planning and spectrum
usage. I was asked to head this committee. The purpose of this letter is
to describe the function of the new Band Planning Committee, and to solicit
volunteers to serve as members of the Committee.

As outlined in the attached Terms of Reference, the function of the
Committee is to deal with all matters relating to Amateur spectrum
allocations, such as band planning and general operating standards and
practices, and to act as adviser to the Region 2 Executive Committee. The
Committee will cooperate and exchange information with similar activities
in Regions 1 and 3.

The Band Planning Committee will be composed of the Chairperson (myself),
Vice-Chairperson and up to one member from each of the seven geographical
areas of Region 2, appointed by the Executive Committee. For a description
of the geographical regions of Region 2 please consult
http://www.iaru-r2.org/executive-committee/

In order to start working on its assigned duties, the Committee needs
members. Volunteers must be an active, licensed and concerned Amateur who
is a member of an IARU Region 2 Member-Society in good standing. He or she
must have a general technical and operational background and an
understanding and appreciation of the political implications involved in
the band planning process. The ability to work in English is a preferred
asset.

If you believe that you are able to contribute to shaping the way that
Amateurs will utilize our spectrum allocations in the years to come, then
we want to hear from you. Please contact me by e-mail at alphonsepenney<at>
gmail.com, including a short biography of your Amateur Radio background.
Note that your appointment must be approved in advance by the Member
Society of your country.

Thank you,
