Celebrating Ham Radio

The *Times of India* reports three amateur radio operators from Chennai
operated radios from the lighthouse in Mahabalipuram for International
Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW)

The lighthouse lightship weekend is usually observed every third week of
August.

The team from Chennai comprises Arun Kumar VU2BBF, Neelu and K Rajesh
VU3RGK (the team leader).

Although lighthouses are still very much crucial, it is not as popular an
option as before due to the evolution of modern technology, Rajesh opined.
An example he pointed out was that of GPS solutions used in the fishing
community.

This weekend is to celebrate the usage of ham radios and raise awareness
about it," Rajesh said.
