Recreational Vehicles and Radio Hams
Herb and Lois Maas, W0HM and KA0VBG, live in a very small house. And
it has a steering wheel. Their 'permanent address' is a mailbox in
South Dakota that they visit once a year
Otherwise, they're on the road, spending winters somewhere in the warm
South, and summers roaming North America. They've been doing that for
5 years, and they spent 5 years before that getting ready for it. It
is the ultimate downsizing, and they love it.
Gary Pearce KN4AQ caught up with them at the Orlando HamCation, a
hamfest with a huge area for RVs right on the fairgrounds. Florida is
the winter home for maybe about half the country's "full-timers,"
people like Herb and Lois who have chucked it all and live on the
road. Ham Radio is a great fit for that lifestyle. The Ham/RVers in
Florida head to Orlando for the HamCation, while those wintering in
the Southwest are drawn to the Quartzfest in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Herb and Lois talk about full-time RV living and Ham Radio here in
Episode 191 of HamRadioNow.
