 Excitement galore for ILLW

Organisers of next month's 17thInternational Lighthouse and Lightship
Weekend have been surprised that among the nearly 330 registrations
received so far, are 20 that have never before joined this fun-event.

Some 38 countries have already registered. The latest first-time one
is the Eckwarden Oberfeuer Lighthouse in Germany on the North Sea,
registered by Sebastian DM1SW.

Australia has four virgin lighthouses.
In Western Victoria there's the Whaler's Bluff Lighthouse at Portland
Harbour with Johnno VK3FMPB, and further up the coast is Griffiths
Island Lighthouse, Port Fairy and Peter VK3ZPF.

On one of Australia's most eastern parts is the Fingal Head Lighthouse
activated by Grant VK2GEL. And in Eastern Tasmania at Cape Tourville
Lighthouse will be Ken VK7HKN and his wife Lyn VK7FROG.

In Spain the Faro de Cabo de Silleiro Lighthouse, this year's 200th
entry, is to be put on air by Hans EA1/DK6EA and Heike DC2CT.

In the USA, which remains in the lead of the number of registrations
on 55, there are a staggering 14 new lighthouses.

They include South East Light on Block Island Rhode Island K1L, with
up to six operators on SSB, Digital and CW.

Among the many other USA new ones is the Chatham Lighthouse in
Massachusetts, with the Barnstable Amateur Radio Club K1KBO.

The annual event aims to increase public awareness of historic marine
navigation structures including lighthouses, lightships and time-ball
towers, their preservation, and promote portable Amateur Radio.
