Jupiter's Radio Emissions

The sixth National Astronomy Week (NAW) runs between March 01–08 and
this year is focused on Jupiter, which is a source of strong radio
emissions as well as being a very prominent optical target

These emissions can be received on any good quality short wave
receiver with an appropriate antenna - have a search on the Web to
learn more. Jupiter's emissions are broadband in nature but the
traditional observing range is between 20 and 22 MHz, and in
particular 20.1 MHz.
The important thing is to find a frequency that is free of terrestrial
interference.

The FUNcube Dongle Pro Plus covers this range, but not the original
'Pro' devices and it would be interesting to see what Spectrum Lab or
other SDR application would reveal, rather than the traditional
approach of feeding a receiver output to something like Radio SkyPipe.

Although Jupiter is prominent for optical astronomers, the first week
of March is lacking in good radio opportunities, assuming that I'm
using the Radio Jupiter Pro software correctly.

By my reckoning the best chances for radio bursts are from 2300 UTC on
the 2nd to 0030 on the 3rd (30 - 40% probability of receiving bursts),
1830 - 1930 on the 5th (40 - 50%), and 1600 - 1700 on the 6th (40 -
50%). By contrast, 26th Feb shows a 60 - 90% probability between 1730
and 1830, and 50 - 80% between 2130 and 2300 on the 16th.
