 The Quiet Zone – where there is no cell service, by law

Within a 13,000 square-mile area in West Virginia and Virginia, cell
phone transmissions, Wi-Fi, and even microwave ovens are restricted –
by law.

This is the National Radio Quiet Zone, established in 1958 to protect
the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, West Virginia,
from harmful interference.
