Another record year for ILLW 2013

The registrations to call 'CQ for the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend' are still to being processed for this Saturday and Sunday August 17-18, but have already set a record.

With less than a week to go, registrations exceed last year's record of 473 as hundreds of radio amateurs prepare to fill their logbooks with thousands of contacts.

They enjoy the link with the old maritime navigation. During their radio contacts a brief location history is given and many have a special QSL card. The enjoyable activity of amateur radio and how to join it are also promoted to visitors.

Among the latest to join in this fun-event is the Pondicherry Lighthouse in a former French ruled area of India. Listen for the special callsign AT13LH to be used by radio amateurs from Bangalore.

New countries include Iceland TF1IRA at Knarraros Lighthouse the first built by Iceland, in Switzerland is HB9DAR Rorschach Hafen Light on Lake Constance, and the Malta Amateur Radio League 9H1MRL at Delimara Lighthouse (Old) guarding the Mediterranean Sea.

The Isle of Man, Italy, Gibraltar, Honduras, Slovenia and Turkey are among the 46 countries listed with Australia, Germany, USA and England having the most.
