GB2012MS begins operation
Manchester Olympic special event call sign GB2012MS begins official operation today after final testing was carried out on Wednesday and Thursday.
Operating from the Trafford Metrovicks Rugby Club headquarters just down the road from the football ground at Old Trafford, the station is celebrating the role of Manchester in the Olympics.
Aptly the first two contacts made during testing using the SES call sign were GX4WAB, the "Follow the Flame" station and 2O12L the London Olympic station respectively.
The station will be manned by the members of the South Manchester Radio and Computing Club and will be working in close co-operation with the other two special event stations in the area GB2012MV and GB2012MW.
The Station will be operational from approximately 18:00Z this evening and will remain in operation every week day evening and all day every weekend until the closing ceremony of the Paralympics in London on the 9th of September.
The station will be mainly operational on the high frequency bands although appearances on VHF and above are expected. Several specialist sessions are also planned including QRP stations only and various data modes.
Licensed Radio Amateurs and the general public are welcome to visit the station during operational hours.
