WRC-12 Day 15 – 6 February 2012 – Week 3 Starts
Agenda Item 1.23 – 500kHz
Tomorrow is expected to be make or break day for this agenda item. Lobbying has continued over the past few days and there are expectations that while there will be objections at the Committee 4 level scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, these will be overcome.
Agenda Item 1.15 – HF Oceanic Radar
Continuing disagreements on this item meant this was referred back to the sub-working group for further work. It is now anticipated that the entry for 5250-5275kHz, amongst others, will now appear in the Table of Allocations rather than as footnotes. This does not change the regulatory status of allocations but does help to tidy up the paperwork. We look forward to this being elevated to Working Group 4A, possibly tomorrow.
Agenda Item 8.2 – Future Agenda Items
Discussions continue on the Cuban proposal for a frequency band for the amateur service at 5MHz. The main discussions are between Cuba and the US and, as one prominent CEPT administration member commented, “only amongst the amateur community could this happen”. A number of regional telecommunications organisations and administrations are watching these negotiations with interest.
