It really heats up for the ILLW

So far, 46 nations have joined the 15th annual International
Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend, being held this weekend (August 18
to 19), totalling 415 registrations.

Most of them go portable to publicise the maritime navigation
structure, promote amateur radio, issue QSL cards for the occasion and
includes some special event stations.

These are the Germany Navy Association OZ0NAVY at the Nordborg
Lighthouse in Denmark, the Goedereede Tower the Netherlands PA700GDR,
Cape North Lighthouse with the Ottawa Valley Mobile Radio Club VE3RAM
and Cape Willoughby, Kangaroo Island South Australia VI5CW.

Each registration has its own unique story to tell. For example, the
museum at Pointe-au-Pere, on the St Lawrence River in Canada with
VE2VCF offers 200 years of history including the sinking of the
Empress of Ireland passenger ship.

There are others who will readily tell you the historical details
including when the structure was built and its role in providing
protection to ships at sea.

Australia has the most registrations, just ahead of the USA, Germany,
England and the Netherlands.

Join the growing list of lighthouses, lightships, beacons and tenders
permitted under the guidelines for the fun event on August the 18th
and 19th. Visit the website ILLW.NET
