Time running out for ILLW entries
With just weeks to the 14th annual International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend, some 360 entries have been recorded so far from 46 countries.
Many have already reached or exceed last year's totals.
These include Australia, Canada, Chile, Honduras, Ireland, Italy, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Saint Lucia and the USA. Most have further accessible lighthouses that are worth entries and participation.
We welcome new lighthouses from Azerbaijan and the Lebanon. Among those yet to enter are Alaska, Cuba, Canary Islands, China, Cyprus, Falkland Islands, Hawaii, Iceland, India, Japan, Jersey or Channel Islands, Mexico, Panama, Taiwan and, Uruguay.
Germany and England are among the entries late this year, but organisers remain confident that last year's record of 447 can be met again.
Included in the rules is a requirement to be at one of the historic structures and not a great distance away. This puts all entries on level footing and reinforces the link between wireless communication, lighthouse keepers and seafarers over the years.
Come and join the 48 hour fun event by setting up a station at a lighthouse or lightship on the full third weekend of the month, which this year is August 20-21.
