Radio Amateurs assist search

Press reports say the Amateur Radio Emergency Corps provided communications during a search for two hunters lost in the New Zealand bush.

The New Zealand Stuff website reports that the two hunters went missing in the Ahimanawa Ranges off the Napier-Taupo road. A search ensued involving Police, Land Search and Rescue volunteers from tramping and hunting clubs, and members of the Amateur Radio Emergency Corps who provided communications.

Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt, of Hastings, said the men were found on the Napier-Taupo Road after "an uncomfortable night in the bush". They apparently told police they were "geographically challenged".
