Taking walkie-talkies abroad

Taking walkie-talkies across national borders can be fraught with hazards as a posting on a Thai Amateur Radio forum illustrates.

Some countries have strict regulations on the import of transmitting equipment and a tourist visiting Phuket in Thailand would seem to have fallen foul of these regulations.

There is no common global VHF/UHF allocation for walkie talkies, different countries allocate different frequencies which include, 245, 325, 409, 420, 446 and 467 MHz.
