German Radio Amateur arrested in Lebanon

A German radio amateur was falsely arrested in Lebanon on suspicion of spying for Israel.

Spiegel Online names the amateur as Manfred Peter H saying earlier reports giving his name as Manfred Peter Mog were incorrect. It is understood the Radio Amateur is Manfred Haug OD5/DL6SN who works in the Liban Lait cheese factory in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.

It is reported he was arrested at the cheese factory by the army at 1:30pm on Monday, July 26, apparently because he had what Lebanese authorities considered to be sophisticated communications equipment.

He was subjected to intense questioning by Lebanese counterintelligence officers before eventually being released late on Tuesday.
