SERA announces Digital Voice Repeater bandplans
The US South Eastern Repeater Association, Inc (SERA)(USA) has announced it's bandplan for 2 metre and 70 cm Digital Voice repeaters.
On 2 metres, they have interleaved the D-STAR channels with the existing 20 kHz spacing FM repeaters. They have adopted a similar policy on 70cm with the D-STAR channels offset 12.5 kHz from the 25 kHz FM repeater channels.
We are currently in the period where both FM and D-STAR operations need to co-exist and different solutions to this problem are being used in different parts of the world depending on local circumstances.
In time Digital Voice will replace FM on both 2 metres and 70 cm.
Currently D-STAR is the leading contender for Digital Voice, it can operate in 8.33 kHz channel spacing.
