silence in all ITU regions have a duration of three minutes, commencing at

mobile service which receive a distress message which is, beyond any possible
doubt, in their vicinity, shall obtain the approval of the local commander
before acknowledging receipt, wherever practicable. However, in areas where
reliable communications with one more coast stations are practicable, mobile
stations should defer this acknowledgement for a short time so that a land or
coast station may acknowledge receipt.<span></span></span></p>
