wanted to tell that the BaoFeng / PoFung DM-5R is not capable of TDMA,
even with the latest update. I flashed my radio yesterday and made some
tests in the evening.</p><p> So when using simplex, all is fine, and also for hotspot usage.<br>
But when operating on a repeater, it messes up the unused timeslot, as
it transmits CW/continuously. However it works and is normally heard on
the repeater, what makes things even worse, wish it simply would not
work at all on repeaters. One without this knowledge even does not
realize that he is doing harm to other users.</p><p> When you think of using a real DMR repeater with it, forget it. You will not make friends with it <span title="smile emoticon" class="m_2852578303056756521gmail-_47e3"><span class="m_2852578303056756521gmail-_7oe">:)</span></span></p><p> Also the mic sensitivity is quite low, the modulation sounds not very good.</p><p>
RF performance looks good, by means of blocking it is better than a
Tytera MD-380. RX audio is OK. Maybe later I can hook it to my tester
for RX sensitivity, TX power, deviation, frequency accuracy, but I do
not expect any surprise from that.</p><p> The CPS is so far easy to use,
easy to understand if one knows DMR, it has some typos in the menus,
but I have seen worse software from China. The cable seems to be one of
the normal ones, common for this kind of radio, with a USB/COM converter
inside.</p> I decided to keep mine, as a DMR scanner and for the
occasional simplex/hotspot operation. Otherwise I stay with my trusted

at the price point of $69.99 USD. In the list of specifications published on the Radioddity website, the Baofeng DM-5R will only support DMR Tier I operation, which will render it incompatible for ham DMR repeater operation, using the most popular ham DMR
repeater networks, including the DMR-MARC, BrandMeister and DMR Plus networks, which only support DMR Tier II operation.</span><u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:16.5pt;margin-bottom:15pt">
<span lang="EN-US" style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;font-size:10pt">To get to the bottom of this question regarding the version of DMR that the Baofeng DM-5R would support, we reached out to Radioddity to clarification. In its response,
Radioddity stated that the radio would initially only support DMR Tier I operation, however a software upgrade would be made available by Baofeng via their website in the future for around $10 USD that would enable the radio to be upgraded to support DMR Tier

verified to support DMR Tier II operation. From our experience with DMR thus far, there has been many promises of DMR “wonder” radios and even worse, misrepresentation of the technical specifications for DMR radios from some Chinese two-way radio manufacturers.
Given this, ham DMR users who are not technically adept should exercise caution when confiding purchasing one of the many Chinese brands, as you may end-up with a lemon.</span><u></u><u></u></p>
