enthusiasts will travel to Mount Gambier this weekend for the 47th Radio
Convention</FONT></STRONG></P>
<P class=first><FONT face=Tahoma>Every year on the June long weekend ham radio
enthusiasts get together for the Australian Fox Hunting
Championships.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>Competitors travel from all over Australia to claim the
coveted champion's trophy.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma><STRONG>Wayne Kilpatrick</STRONG> is the South East Radio
Group Convention Coordinator and said this has nothing to do with 'eliminating
foxes from the countryside'.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>The game involves using direction finding radio equipment
to look for people and collect points.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>Contestants usually compete in teams and all squeeze into
the one vehicle.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>"Most operate from four wheel drives and they might have a
team of four people in a four wheel drive, but the equipment in that car is
absolutely mind boggling," he said.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>The antenna formations are an art.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>"You couldn't believe that you could put this much
equipment on a vehicle."</FONT></P>
