<H1>Shutdown of analogue radio</H1>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>The UK House of Lords Select Committee on Communications
2nd Report of Session 2009–10 which deals with the changeover to DAB in 2015 is
now available.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>Current plans are to shutdown AM and FM broadcasters in
2015, with those stations only being available on DAB. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>The UK uses an early version of DAB which is incompatible
with the DAB Plus system being adopted by other countries. DAB Plus is more
efficient giving a far greater choice of stations and the failure of the UK to
adopt DAB Plus means that multi-standard chips will be needed. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>With regard to this the report says:</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Tahoma>"We recommend that the Government should work with
manufacturers to ensure that digital car radios are fitted with multi-standard
chips as soon as possible and inform consumers of availability and benefits of
digital radios containing the multi-standard chip."</FONT></P>
