ARLA/CLUSTER: As Ilhas Laquedivas (em inglês: Lakshadweep) é a nova entidade DXCC

As Laquedivas (em inglês: Lakshadweep), no passado também conhecidas como
Laccadive, Minicoy e Aminidivi,  são o menor dos dois territórios insulares
indianos. Administrativamente constituem um território da União. Estão
separadas do continente (estado de Kerala) pelo mar das Laquedivas, a
nordeste, a sua outra fronteira é com as Maldivas, a sul, através do canal
dos Oito Graus. Tal como as Maldivas, também as Laquedivas são um conjunto
de atóis e recifes de coral tendo por Capital: Kavaratti.

Laquedivas significa «cem mil ilhas» em sânscrito (laksha, cem mil, e
dweep, ilhas). Os portugueses conquistaram as Laquedivas em 1498 mas em
1545 os habitantes da ilha revoltaram-se contra os invasores e conseguiram
expulsá-los.

As Laquedivas são formadas por 12 atóis de coral, três recifes de coral e
cinco bancos de areia, além de muitos ilhéus menores. A área total é de 32
km². As ilhas estão situadas a cerca de 200 a 300 km das costas do estado
indiano de Kerala e imediatamente a norte das ilhas Maldivas.

Telangana Today reports the logistics of amateur radio training and the
exam meant *Aboobaker VU3EBX* had to wait a very long time before being
able to get his licence

The newspaper says:

The beautiful islands of Lakshadweep have got its first local Radio Amateur
recently. The new local Radio Star of Lakshadweep is Aboobaker from
Kavaratti, its capital, who got the Amateur Radio Licence issued by
Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India with the callsign *VU3EBX*. He
is a retired Works Superintendent of the Public Works Department (PWD)
there.

Lakshadweep is considered as a separate “Radio Country� by radio amateurs
around the world and hence is eagerly sought after by them.
Till now only those who got special permission from mainland India and
foreigners used to operate occasionally from these Islands as DXpeditions.

Aboobaker had interest in Amateur Radio for a very long time but could not
get into it due to the logistics involved.
