Institute for Broadcasting Technology to close

The Institute for Broadcasting Technology (IRT), the research
institute of all public broadcasting companies in Germany, Austria and
Switzerland with headquarters in Munich-Freimann, is apparently to be
closed at the end of 2020 and all employees laid off

A translation of the DARC post reads:

The Institute made an important contribution to Amateur Radio relevant
when they published "Interference from LED lamps", which appeared on
the website of the Bavarian Radio and was subsequently discussed in
the media.

An online petition to save the IRT has now been launched.

The institute conducts research in the field of radio, television and
internet technology. It improves existing system solutions for the
production and distribution of broadcasting services, develops and
assesses new technologies and supports their implementation in
practice.

The IRT represents the interests of broadcasting through its
participation in various international bodies such as B. EBU, ITU,
DVB, WorldDAB etc.
All shareholders declared to terminate their partnership agreement
with the IRT on December 31, 2020. Now the renowned institute for
basic technical research is facing the end.
