Let VK amateurs decide on the new callsign format, RASA says
The two Australian amateur radio peak representative bodies, the Radio
Amateur Society of Australia (RASA) and the Wireless Institute of
Australia (WIA) have launched a joint survey on options for a new
callsign format for Foundation Class amateurs.
“Foundation Licencees now have access to digital modes – a great boost
for the hobby. However, the four letter callsign suffixes they use are
incompatible with some very popular digital modes, including FT8, APRS
and DSTAR.” RASA President Glenn VK4DU said
“The best solution is to reassign FLs a three letter suffix.”
“WIA President Greg Kelly and I have discussed the issue with the
regulator and we agreed to conduct a survey to seek the views of
Australian amateurs on one of two preferred solutions” Glenn said.
“The results of the survey will form the basis of our submission to ACMA.”
“RASA has no preferred option – we will be guided by the views of
Australian amateurs” Glenn said.
