Opera Beacon/QSO mode over Es'hail-2 / QO-100 Geostationary Satellite

The first Opera contact, via QO-100, reported by EA5DOM,

Using a power level round 20 watts , to a 3 band ‘Diamond’ vertical
collinear Ae ,Spotted by EB3FRN at -7 dB s/n
Using the Amsat web-sdr

Luis reported,
I’m testing an Op05 beacon over Es’Hailsat2 satellite.
Tune it in the WebSDR at .610 dial

Probably, the first Opera transmission on this bird, Works like a charm ;-)

Since the initial test’s, SV8RV has established an Opera off air monitor at
10.489603.5 GHz USB-Dial-Set, with web linked reporting. Using, 1 meter
dish with gps conditioned LMB, joined by a variety of Tx/Rx and SWL
stations,
PSK-Map , Displays , Band 23 cm , Mode Opera
Transmitter requirements are minimal,

The on-air signal, is a single carrier, the same as a conventional CW
transmitter, but sending a serial data word of 50% duty No time locking or
sequencing required, system is fully ‘free running’, decoding, is provided
by the Opera app at levels of down to -23 dB s/n in 2.4 KHz b/w for the
Op05 mode in use , Power levels in mW ‘s are sufficient, using 1 meter dish
and, being single tone , taking virtually zero bandwidth, all activity
shares a common , ‘Dial frequency

The modulation is NOT affected by ‘harmonic’ multiplication , making the
system ideal for club / school Tx projects to access the satellite , as
well as ‘first venture’ into GHz Tx for established operators.

Decoded only , by the windows based app, follows conventional practice,
audio via ssb b/w Rx , no additional filtering is required. Measured S/N
levels are referenced in 2.4 KHz b/w and Audio tone frequency, mid band
1500 Hz and are single pass, average values,

The windows based app, may also be run on LINUX, using windows emulator.

The single carrier renders the system immune to Doppler spread, rendering
it idea for uWave links and EME .

Opera keying , is also provided by the U3 beacon kit, 2G Beacon project and
PIC based keying devices ,using the ‘PIC’ code available from the windows
app.

Awards & contests:

Opera is a ‘serial data transmission’ listed in ADIF as beacon and qso
versions , and provides auto E-QSL functions , spots are routed directly to
all web linked users and uploaded to the PSK-Map and on line data base .

Note- Due to PSK-Map legacy issues, Opera is reporting as 23 cm Opera
should be set to 1296 / 23 cm band

Opera activity is now centred on
RX 10.489603.5 GHz USB-Dial-Set
TX 2.400106 GHz +/- ~ 150 Hz ‘on air’ Carrier frequency
