Emergency Communication during VAYU Cyclone at Porbandar (Gujarat) India

Dear Hams,

During recent VAYU Cyclone crisis around Gujarat coast, myself *Rajesh
Vagadia VU2EXP* and *Shyama Vagadia VU3WHG* (my niece) deployed to
Porbandar for Ham Radio Emergency Communication service. Gujarat Police and
Divyabhakshar invited us for EmCom services.

We were prepared & deployed on short notice to Porbandar on 12th June 2019
(evening). Next day early morning we installed HF/VHF Antenna & Radio
setup. I was equipped with digital communication setup also for learning
it's effectiveness. Our operating plan & frequency usage were co-ordinated
with GIAR & ARSI.

Our station remain successful to establish radio contacts with various
cities across Gujarat & India incl. Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot,
Mumbai, Kolhapur, Thrissur etc.  Good number of hams made contacts with us
& remained standby on our emergency frequency. We time to time updated our
activities with ARSI, GIAR, Police dept, NDRF, weather forecasters, media
etc.
Good numbers of queries over phone calls & social-media were also handled
in meantime, as mobile network & electricity was available most of the
time. Fortunately course of VAYU Cyclone changed & landfall didn't hit
coast of Gujarat, and finally was everything safe.

Observed commending safety measures & action taken by authorities and
various rescue agencies all time.

After becoming situation absolutely normal & safe we returned back to
Rajkot on midnight of 13th June 2019.

It remain great learning experience for us on preparedness, installation,
operating, coordination etc aspects. We were fortunate to offer bit of our
contribution to the society.

Parth Gohil Sir, Ranparia Sir (Wireless PI), Shri Pravinbhai Valera VU2CPV
(GIAR) & Divyabhakshar group for extending full support.
