Mais de um milhão de pessoas já fugiu do "colossal" furacão Florence

A costa leste do EUA prepara-se para a chegada, nos próximos dias, do
Florence, que já obrigou à retirada de mais de um milhão de pessoas de
casa, e que pode ser um dos furacões mais destruidores das últimas décadas
na costa atlântica dos Estados Unidos.

O furacão deve passar hoje,quarta-feira entre as Bahamas e as Bermudas e
chegar na quinta-feira à costa norte-americana.

O tamanho do Florence "é colossal", afirmou o diretor do centro nacional de
furacões norte-americano (NHC), Ken Graham. Os estados da Virgínia,
Carolina do Norte e Carolina do Sul são os mais ameaçados pelo Florence,
que se mantém na categoria 4 na escala de Saffir-Simpson, composta por
cinco níveis, com ventos até 220 Km/h. A capital, Washington DC, também
está em alerta.

O estado de emergência foi declarado nestes três estados, medida que
permite desbloquear fundos federais.

No Atlântico formaram-se já também o furacão Helene, de categoria 2 e
ventos até 175 Km/h, e a tempestade tropical Isaac, com ventos de 110 Km/h.

AO-92 to try imaging Hurricane Florence September 13-14

AMSAT Vice-President of Operations, Drew Glasbrenner, KO4MA says that the
camera on AO-92 is planned to be used to try to image Hurricane Florence
during North American east coast passes on Thursday, September 13, and
Friday, September 14.

AO-92 will not be in its U/V FM voice transponder operation during these
passes. Ground stations should standby and not attempt to access AO-92
during this time. Voice operation will be available later during these days.

The high speed image data will be transmitted on the 145.880 MHz downlink.

The image can be captured, decoded, and uploaded to the Fox-1 data
warehouse using the FoxTelem v.1.06 software available from AMSAT:
