Ham radio on Swedish TV

Reino Larsson SM6YED was interviewed on Sveriges Television (SVT)
about the role of radio amateurs in a possible emergency. The
interview featured a contact with Mike G0WSB

A Google translation of the SVT story reads:

Shortwave radio is the mode of communication that remains when the
phone and the Internet stop functioning if a crisis occurs.

In Sweden it is estimated that there are approximately 12,000 radio
amateurs. Reino Larsson is one of them. He is in charge of
Falkenberg's broadcasters. In the clubhouse, which is bordered by
large antennas and masts, they send shortwave radio. It is a mode of
communication that can be powered by power and battery, and thus can
be used even if the power is to be erased - unlike the phone and the
internet.

The radio amateurs helped Gudrun during the storm

In 2005, when the storm Gudrun swept across Sweden, radio amateurs
quickly helped and established crisis communication. In a blog post,
Tore Andersson, chairman of Sweden's broadcasters, said they could
complement municipalities' home communications services. In other
countries affected by natural disaster, such as the United States and
the Philippines, the authorities rely on the help of the radio
amateurs.
