New revolutionary logic for GB3PI

Over the years, how to ensure that every user has a fair crack of the whip
while operating through one of the UK’s most popular 2m repeaters has been
a difficult question to answer.

The *Cambridgeshire Repeater Group*, tasked with operating *GB3PI* – which
was Britain’s first ever amateur repeater – have come up with a solution
after working closely with a team of software developers from the
internationally renown academic centres of Cambridge University.

Each Cambridgeshire Repeater Group member will be allocated their own DCS
(Digitally Coded Squelch) ID number, as more DCS ID’s can be issued than
CTCSS codes.

Visiting users will be able to use a generic code, which will be posted on
the CRG Website, and updated daily.

The logic works by listening to the codes transmitted by the users, and to
ensure fair play, it will signal the code to be accepted at the end of each
over using a combination of Morse Code, DTMF, and EEA 5-Tone Selcall. This
will allow the other users know who’s turn it is to speak next. The code
will be picked at random, so members should closely monitor GB3PI to ensure
that they use their chance to use the repeater with probably the best
coverage in the UK.

Users that abuse the privilege of the use of the repeater by constantly
taking “pips†and having a fifteen minute “over†will no longer be able to
do so as the intelligent electronics will give the right of access to
another user.

The system also has the capability to monitor and adjust the timeouts of
individual users based on the content of their conversations. Users that
discuss boring subjects, or just sound boring, will receive a reduction to
a twenty second timeout. People with interesting technical topics to
discuss, and subject like PYE & Pint (especially relating to the Pint) will
receive a longer timeout.

The system will go live five minutes after midnight on the 31st March.

The initial generic DCS code for visitors will be *0104*.
