Radio hams make contact from lighthouses
CBC reports amateur radio enthusiasts spent the weekend of Aug 19-20
travelling from lighthouse to lighthouse on Prince Edward Island to send
out messages across the world
There are a total of 63 lighthouses on the Island. About 35 are still
active aids to marine navigation, more than 20 have been decommissioned,
and seven are privately owned. Seven are national historic sites.
Summerside Amateur Radio Club president *Doug Silliker VY2DS*, the
organizers of the event, said historically, lighthouses were important
locations for radio communication.
