UK ham radio exam report
The RSGB Examination Standards Committee report has been released
covering Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced exams, the Air Cadet
Organisation exam is also mentioned
The report gives the exam results for 2015 and notes that for
Foundation the average of 2.8 candidates per exam, is inefficient and
represents an extra workload for the Examination Department.
Of the 1475 Foundation passes in 2015, 707 or 47.9% enrolled for
Intermediate exams. It is believed the UK has a higher percentage of
entry level licensees progressing to the next stage than any other
country in the world.
The International Amateur Radio Examination (IARE) a single paper
HAREC compatible exam run by the RSGB is mentioned.
The Air Cadet Organisation exam is treated by Ofcom as being
equivalent to Foundation. 123 candidates sat the exam in 2015 of which
88 passed and 62 o those are believed to have obtained Foundation
licences.
The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is now fully engaged with the ACO, with
their candidates sitting the ACO examination. The Sea Cadet Corps
(SCC), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and the Marine Cadets are keen to
participate and the ACO is currently evaluating their operator
procedure training to see if it matches to requirements of the ACO
examination.
The Examination Irregularities section of the report is well worth reading.
