Canada NewsWire reports on the DMR digital amateur radio system ready
to serve Toronto in times of crisis

With the ever present threats to our society from severe weather,
earthquakes, flooding and other natural disasters, having the ability
to communicate reliability is one of the key elements to being able to
save lives, reunite families and restore order. To help Toronto to
prepare for such eventualities, digital Amateur Radio equipment
operating using the Amateur Radio call sign of VA3XPR has been set-up
at First Canadian Place – Canada's tallest office tower and one of
Toronto's most iconic buildings, to help provide reliable
communications throughout the greater Toronto area (GTA) should the
need arise.

The VA3XPR digital Amateur Radio system will allow hams in the GTA to
communicate with one another using state of the art radio equipment
that leverages Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) technology, either locally
or around the world to relay vital information when other
communication lines have failed or become over utilized. By using DMR,
the VA3XPR digital Amateur Radio system is able to facilitate noise
free communications, unlike traditional analog Amateur Radio
equipment, which is more prone to interference and noise, thus
limiting its ability to be used during adverse conditions.
