NZ hunter fined for using illegal dog-tracking devices
A Whakamaru man was fined $2,250 plus court costs of $130 and solicitor’s
fees of $250 in the Tokoroa District Court on 1 September 2015 for using
illegal dog tracking equipment.
Hamish Prier appeared in Court for using unlicensed radiocommunications
equipment, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The illegal equipment was found by police during an execution of a search
warrant in May.
The sentencing judge also imposed an order for forfeiture of the illegal
Garmin Astro 220 and the two DC40 Dog Collars.
Hunters are reminded that dog tracking equipment designed for the United
States market is likely to use the 151-154 MHz frequency range. This range
is assigned for other purposes in New Zealand.
