N4KC publishes three new books, two for Ham Radio

Prolific author and active Amateur Radio operator Don Keith N4KC has
just published three new works. One is another in his series of
non-fiction books dealing with World War II history and the other two
are aimed at those interested in the hobby of Ham Radio.

One of the Amateur Radio books is primarily for those who are thinking
about taking up the hobby or who have recently become licensed but
have hesitated to get on the air because of perceived obstacles.

Get on the Air…Now! deals with overcoming the most common difficulties
newcomers…and some old-timers, too… encounter in experiencing all the
exciting aspects the pastime has to offer.
Those impediments include choosing a first radio, erecting an antenna,
becoming familiar with the characteristics of the various Amateur
bands, learning the jargon, and knowing what a new Ham might say and
do in those initial on-air contacts. The book also contains the full
text of The Amateur Radio Dictionary, which is Keith’s other newly
released Ham Radio book.

The Amateur Radio Dictionary is easily the most complete glossary ever
compiled of terms and phrases that Hams might encounter on the air, at
hamfests, or in groups and clubs. With over 1200 entries, 1600
definitions, and hundreds of web links, this collection should be a
tremendous asset to any Ham. Also, new terms come along all the time
so even those who have been licensed for decades will run into new
ones as they go, making this dictionary a great shack accessory.

Keith’s previous Ham Radio book, Riding the Shortwaves: Exploring the
Magic of Amateur Radio, continues to attract a strong readership and
has made several Amazon.com bestseller lists.

N4KC’s latest historical non-fiction work is The Ship that Wouldn’t
Die, the true story of the USS Neosho, a key but unintentional player
in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942. Mistaken for an aircraft
carrier by the Japanese, she was attacked and pounded mercilessly. How
the survivors among her crew managed to keep her afloat as they waited
for rescue is an amazing story of courage and ingenuity. The book has
also made numerous best-seller lists.

In addition to being a best-selling author, Keith is a former
award-winning broadcaster. He writes articles for various publications
(including one on Amateur Radio that appeared in the May 2015 issue of
American Legion Magazine), web sites, and his own Ham Radio site. He
is a member of the American Radio Relay League, holds the Amateur
Extra class license, and has been a Ham for more than fifty years,
since the age of thirteen. He operates most modes and bands and enjoys
ragchewing, contesting, DXing, and working the digital modes.
