Ham Radio repeater debate draws sparks

The eMissourian reports on disagreement between Pacific Mayor Jeff
Palmore and radio amateur Bob Masson KB0JDY over delays in installing
a digital D-STAR amateur radio repeater

The newspaper says the two differ over the city’s ability to install
the repeater on one of the towers on Blackburn Park and use the small
building at the base of the tower for computers associated with the
repeater.

Bob Masson KB0JDY, President of the Pacific Meramec Valley Amateur
Radio Club (PMVARC), is reported to have said that under the city’s
contracts with the tower companies the small building at the base of
the tower could be used, so a pre-fab building would not be needed
saving significantly on costs.

Palmore was reportedly visibly angered when Bob KB0JDY said he had
been given copies of the tower contracts and had provided them to each
of the aldermen.
