New Amateur Radio Act for Austria

The Austrian society the ÖVSV is involved in the negotiations with the
government BMVIT ministry, to create a new Amateur Radio Act (AFG)

A Google English translation of a post on the ÖVSV website reads:

Yesterday [Sept 15] the President of ÖVSV umbrella organization was
contacted by senior representatives of the Federal Ministry and
invited to discuss a contemporary redesign of AFG. The existing
Amateur Radio Act of 1999 and forms the fundamental basis for the
amateur radio service in Austria. It provides the basic framework and
Penalties at the national level, the detailed regulations
(frequencies) elsewhere in the Amateur Radio Ordinance (AFV) can be
found. The fees are set out in a separate Fee Regulation (AFGV). The
new law is to be designed, contemporary, bringing relief in the
application and also enable remote operation.

It is important to note that it has fortunately been in recent years,
no serious objections to the amateur radio service. The trials of
remote operation proceeded without disturbances or incidents. As radio
amateurs have also filed a certificate of competence in the form of a
check, no need for detailed regulation is needed or even if preventive
measures appears. A real liberalization of the AFG, as well as in
business practice, is therefore desirable.

The amateur radio service has also proved in Austria that it is a
source of innovative developments (HAMNET, software defined radio)
especially for the youth in education (HTL, FH) and also in its role
in the society is very valuable, Duch assistance in emergency
u.Katastrophenfall (see Blackout in Slovenia).

Against this background, it is increasingly managed to gain
recognition and support among politicians and authorities, as well as
to create a positive public image.

The ÖVSV, to represent the interests of all radio amateurs in Austria,
welcomed the upcoming talks in BMVIT that have a common concerted
design for the AFG for evaluating the goal.
