Ettus Research founder Matt Ettus N2MJI first learned about the
concept of Software Defined Radios (SDR) at the TAPR amateur radio
Digital Communication Conference in 1997
In the years following that conference Matt experimented with SDRs and
in 2004 founded his own company Ettus Research which produced the
Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) range of software-defined
radios. Ettus Research was acquired by National Instruments (NI) in
2010.
Matt holds the US entry level Technician license which requires a
similar amount of work to obtain as UK Foundation, however, the US
license gives holders far greater privileges to experiment at UHF and
Microwaves.
In September 2014 Matt gave a presentation to the TAPR/ARRL DCC and
the video has now been released by Gary Pearce KN4AQ.
