Eight-year-old passes FCC ham radio exam

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports *Zorion Connell KG7KNK* passed his
amateur radio Technician exam at the age of eight

Zorion, who is in third grade, passed his exam on April 5, 2014 and
received his license on April 11. It is thought he may be the youngest
radio amateur in all of Nevada.

The 35-question Technician exam covers topics such as radio theory,
regulations and operating practices. 26 question need to be answered
correctly to pass, Zorion is quoted as saying he only missed 4 questions
out of the 35.

Unlike the system in the UK there are no practical assessments for the USA
exams just a multiple choice exam. Technician licensees are allowed to run
up to 1500 watts output on the VHF, UHF and Microwave bands and 200 watts
output on four HF bands. If they wish they can design and build their own
equipment.
