Capsized boat - Radio hams provide communications

On June 18, 2014 the *Malaysian Amateur Radio Emergency Service Society*
was contacted by Selangor Fire & Rescue Department (FRD) to provide
emergency communication in support of the search and rescue operation
conducted on a capsized boat carrying 97 passengers off Banting waters

As the appointed coordinator for radio hams emcomm support for FRD’s
RESCAR, MARES had broadcasted through all communication means calling for
volunteers to assist the SAR agencies in this noble effort. The call for
volunteers was made not only to MARES members but for other radio hams in
Klang Valley. 18 radio hams responded and worked tirelessly throughout the
deployment, and they are: 9W2VCR, 9W2TJK, 9W2JOQ, 9W2EDL, SWL Dinesh,
9W2PYQ, 9W2VAX, 9W2GNU, 9M2CCC, 9W2ZLH, 9W2STT, 9W2WF, 9W2FD, 9W2FG, 9M2AU,
9M2SQL, 9M2RHQ and 9M2RMT.

Throughout the deployment (June 18-22), various SAR teams on ground and air
were able to communicate effectively between them and the Incident Command
Post set up at Sg Air Hitam Jetty, Kg Kelanang, Banting, Selangor.

The Emcomm provided is a success and MARES wishes to thank all who
volunteered and supported this mission. A big thank you to Mr Alan Seah and
Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia for the kind and proactive support throughout the
mission whose equipment helped us greatly.
