ILLW has another virgin lighthouse
Added to the *International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend* held in three
week's time is another virgin registration, this time from Portugal.
The Farol Cabo de Sines, a round two-stage masonry tower built in 1880, is
the 5th from Portugal.
Putting it on air for the first time are members of Nucleo Radioamadores da
Amarda CR5SN.
It joins the USA with 14 new lighthouses, Australia has four, and one each
in Germany and Spain. Some 390 registrations from 43 countries have already
been received for this event on the third weekend of August.
The 100th registration was Australia's Point Lowly Lighthouse, the 200th
being Spain's lighthouse Faro de Cabo de Silleiro, and the 300th was the
USA Lightship Columbia. Who will be the prestigious 400th registration this
year?
Throughout the world portable Amateur Radio stations will be at a
lighthouse, lightship or maritime beacon. The basic objectives are raising
public awareness about the historic structures, the need for their
preservation, and to promote goodwill. Above all have plenty of fun.
For the guidelines or to register online for the 17th annual International
Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend on August the 16th and 17th, visit the
website illw.net
