ILLW at the half-way point
The International Lighthouse and Lighthouse Weekend held each August
is a long running and annual very popular fun-event.
So far it has 160 registrations from 25 countries which are ready to
go portable with Amateur Radio at historic locations that provided a
service to yesteryear sea-goers.
The aims of the event include promoting lighthouses, lightships,
time-ball towers and fog horns in line with a set of guidelines.
Many countries were reliant on access to a sea for successful trade
and tourism. Navigation for ships was provided by those structures.
They deserve public awareness and restoration as part of our maritime
history.
When the event was held last year a record 500 registrations joined in
representing more than 50 countries.
So far with six months to go many are yet to make a commitment and
register for the event.
Among countries missing are Algeria, Austria, Cuba, Estonia,
Gibraltar, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania,
Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Norway, Romania, Panama, Philippines, Russia,
Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand,
Turkey, Ukraine and Uruguay.
Start planning now and register on-line for the event on August the
16th and 17th by visiting the website www.illw.net
