GAREC in Switzerland late June

The delegates and guests at the Global Amateur Radio Emergency
Communication (GAREC) 2013 Conference will have a busy agenda, share
ideas and learn the approach being taken in different parts of the
world.

Held on June 25-27 in Zurich, it immediately precedes HAM RADIO in
Friedrichshafen, Germany.

GAREC will be combined with the biennial Switzerland Convention of
Amateur Radio Emergency Communication, on June 27.

GAREC held since 2005, continues to attract emergency communicators
discussing recent events, technical solutions, and cooperation with
professional partners.

Among attendee are those interested in providing emergency
communication via amateur radio.

Organiser Stefan Streif HB9TTQ advises that one topic on the agenda is
whether amateur radio has an emergency communications role in Europe.
This is because the authorities believe their infrastructure is so
good and its technical level so high, that a disaster could not affect
a wide area.

GAREC will discuss the true objectives, dissemination of disaster
information at an international level, how to have hams prepared,
trained and involved, and convince authorities about amateur radio
emergency communication.

There will also be regional IARU reports of recent disasters,
discussion on technologies in use, and a table-top disaster exercise.
