FCC licence session in Pretoria
The FCC, the agency that regulates the radio frequency spectrum in the
USA, issues amateur radio licences to residents and non-residents
alike.
An American licence is useful for reciprocal licences in many
countries that do not have an agreement with South Africa.
The C82DX operation in October provides an opportunity to hold a
licence exam, as the crew includes enough Volunteer Examiners to
conduct a licence session. If there is enough interest, the session
will take place in the Pretoria area in mid-October.
There are three licence classes: Technician, General and Extra.
A candidate can sit all three exams in one session.
Each examination consists of technical and regulation questions
applicable to the respective licence class. A candidate can take one,
two or three exams depending on the licence class required. Several
vendors, including the ARRL, provide suitable study material. An
existing South African licence holder should have no difficulty
mastering material.
If you are interested, please contact Tjerk Lammers ZS6P or Chris
Burger ZS6EZ. Candidates will be advised timeously of schedule and
venue information.
