Subject: [dstar_digital] D-STAR Coverage During the London Olympics (REF005A and Direct Routing)
For visitors planning to travel to London during the Olympics this summer, here is a coverage map to help you find D-STAR coverage via REF005A and callsign routing:
http://www.ukrepeater.net/repeaters/maps/dstar2012.jpg
The repeaters shown in the composite "best server" map, can be linked to REF005A and they also support callsign routing, so you can "dial home" via D-STAR. Coverage starts on the the south coast, across the home counties and London and extends to the north including Milton Keynes and Cambridge. NB. GB7AU, GB7ML and GB7ZP will be network connected over the next few weeks.
It should be noted that LOCOG (Olympic organisers) have specifically prohibited the use of license exempt, CB and amateur radio equipment within their venues. Security staff have been instructed to check for any radio equipment that has not been tagged for official games use. "Only accredited Games Family members are allowed to operate at venues. Games Family members include Rights Holding Broadcasters, accredited Press, the IOC and IPC, National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, International Federations, and Games sponsors and partners. All wireless devices will need to be declared and approved for use at the Games."
More information on the use of amateur radio during the Olympic events (27 July - 12 August and 29 Aug - 9 Sept) can be found here:
