Raspberry Pi - the road to compliance
The Electronics Weekly Directive Decoder blog reports on the steps that lead to the Raspberry Pi getting the less stringent EMC Class A rating.
In the blog the Head of Legislation at Premier Farnell Gary Nevison says:
"So EMC testing resulted in a Class A rating, the product was tested for RoHS which showed bromine in several plastics and a trace of cadmium in one component but was declared compliant, and the REACH analysis of Substances of Very High Concern concluded that the Pi was low risk."
He also expressed the hope that the Raspberry Pi will "over time, be housed in a suitable enclosure and rated as Class B." - Class B is for domestic appliances while the less stringent Class A is for heavy industrial environments where higher levels of radio interference may not be such a concern.
